Are You a Humanist?Lots of people are Humanists and don't even realise. Take this short quiz to find out how Humanist you are! 1. Why are you good? Because if I'm bad, I'll be punished in the afterlife It's how my parents brought me up I'm just playing the game. I'm good to others because I think that's the best way to be 2. What's the purpose of life? It's up to us to give meaning to life. I want to help other people, and make the world a better place. Life is about family, marriage and children We have been put on earth to serve God Life's about being successful, and making lots of money 3. Should everyone be treated equally? You can't be racist or sexist now but let's face it.... being gay is unnatural. I believe that every person deserves equal respect and opportunity, irrespective of what they believe. That's a pipedream. There's always been inequality, and there always will be. Mostly, but people of faith should be allowed to discriminate on religious grounds. 4. How should children be taught about religion? Children should learn about all beliefs as subjects of study rather than be taught that any one religion is "true" Children should be taught how to think, not told what to think. Children should be brought up in the beliefs of their parents Religion is the root of all evil. It should be outlawed! 5. How can you tell right from wrong? I don't worry too much about that; people should just be free to do what they like. My parents taught me to know how to behave It's not always obvious, but I try to take responsibility for my actions, and thinking about how they might affect other people is a good place to start. My holy book provides the best guide as to how to behave 6. How do you feel about sexuality? We should be free to express our sexuality as we wish and try not to hurt others Religious teachings provide the best guide on sexuality Sex is just about having as much fun as possible Sex should only happen in marriage between a woman and a man 7. How do you feel about physician-assisted suicide? It's just plain wrong. Life is the gift of God and I welcome whatever God judges to be right for me. People should be free to end their lives with dignity within the law, and without having to travel abroad to do so. I think that doctors know best. I just hope that if I need it, that I get the best possible palliative care. It's my life, and if I want to end it, it's my choice. 8. How should we behave towards the environment? We should treat it well because it is God's creation. We have a duty to preserve bio-diversity for the sake of the planet and future generations. I'm with Jeremy Clarkson - climate change is a myth! It's important, but not as important as we humans. 9. Does God exist? Yes I don't know, but I hope or think so No, so I can do what the hell I like! I don't think so. There's no evidence and anyway, how we behave in this life is a much more important question.
