Scottish Government announce funding for child funerals

The Scottish Government have announced an agreement with local authorities that will mean across Scotland families will not be charged for burial and cremations of children.

Humanist Society Scotland have welcomed the news as a fantastic step forward to better supporting bereaved parents.

Lynsey Kidd, Director of Services

Humanist Society Director of Services Lynsey Kidd said:

“This is an extremely welcome announcement to help support alleviate funeral costs for bereaved parents. Humanist Society Scotland registered celebrants have for a number of years volunteered their time to craft and provide a meaningful Humanist funeral, at no cost, for under 16s. We believe that it is important to support families at what is an extremely difficult time.”
