Our Humanist Future – Society launches new strategic plan

Humanist Society Scotland launched a new strategic plan which sets out the Trustee’s aims and objectives for the charity for the next three years at the RSE in Edinburgh.

Our Humanist Future was developed by the board of trustees who are made up of elected members and co-opted experts. The plan sets out a clear focus on the organisations work in being the voice for Humanism that Scotland needs – helping people celebrate lives and relationships in line with their beliefs, as well as providing more opportunities for members to be at the forefront of the Society.

The Society was delighted to be joined by Scots Makar Jackie Kay who read a selection of her poetry suited well to Humanist ceremonies to mark the occasion.

Commenting on the new plan Humanist Society Scotland chair Maggie Kinloch said:

“Humanist Society Scotland goes into this new decade with a renewed aim and mission set out in the plan. But our place as the only Scottish charity who speaks out for Humanist values, helps mark key life events in the Humanist tradition, and provides a community for likeminded people remains the same.”

Speaking to the new plan and aims for future work of the Society Chief Executive Fraser Sutherland said:

“The process of developing this plan allowed trustees to review the progress that had been made in our thirty year history and focus on what need to be done with the next thirty years in mind. The success of the organisation is down to the huge contribution of members, volunteers, celebrants, supporters and staff whom we couldn’t achieve anything without.
