HSS mourns the death of Registered Celebrant Joe Hughes Humanist Society Scotland • November 2015 It is with deep regret that we inform members the longstanding HSS Registered Celebrant, Joe Hughes has died this weekend. Joe was one of the original 12 celebrants who gained authorisation to conduct humanist weddings in 2005. Joe was a very popular celebrant, and well known in and around Paisley. Through his work as a Humanist Celebrant Joe helped numerous couples celebrate their love. He will be sadly missed by members of HSS. Joe will be remembered for being at the forefront of making Scotland one of the few countries in the world where humanists can celebrate their love through marriage. Reflecting on Joe’s time as a Humanist Celebrant, Stuart Rodger (Area Ceremonies Officer for the West of Scotland) said: “Joe could deal with people from Kilmacomb to Ferguslie Park. He was a man for all people. For many in the West of Scotland, he would be the first Humanist Celebrant they ever saw conduct a ceremony. “We send our sincere condolences to his wife Liz.” Share on: FacebookTwitterLinkedInPinterestEmail ×
