Humanist Society Scotland mourns founding member Hayden Arthurson (1939-2020) Fraser Sutherland • November 2020 Humanist Society Scotland mourns the death of a founding member and very active participant in our Edinburgh group Hayden Arthurson. Hayden was born in Edinburgh in 1939 and had a long career as a medical professional as an anaesthetist, general practitioner and prison doctor. He was a keen hillwalker having climbed all of Scotland’s 282 Munros and taking part in overseas expeditions as well as a fond accordion player. Hayden was one of the first members of Humanist Society Scotland when it was founded in 1989 and had remained a strong supporter of the humanist movement since then. Hayden had a strong belief in fairness and equality and his philosophy was to make the most of life, every day a new challenge, making life the best it could be right to the end. Hayden’s zest for life and outgoing nature will be missed by his friends in the Society but we celebrate his long commitment to humanism. Share on: FacebookTwitterLinkedInPinterestEmail ×
