Humanists married in Scotland toast campaign win for equal marriage in Bermuda

A couple from Bermuda married in a Humanist Society Scotland wedding last year have toasted a successful campaign to have their wedding recognised in their home country.

Alex and Rich were married in a Humanist Ceremony in Scotland in October 2016 but in Bermuda same-sex marriages were not legally recognised. However that has now all changed with a landmark legal ruling in the Supreme Court of Bermuda which found that refusing to allow a same-sex marriage was illegal discrimination under human rights legislation.

Ross Wright, the HSS celebrant who carried out the wedding of Alex and Rich said,

“I am so happy to hear that Bermuda have recognised the marriages of same-sex couples including Alex and Rich. They are such a lovely couple and their wedding was such a fun occasion to be a part of. I wish them all the happiness for their future together in Bermuda.”
