Children and Young People Bill – Consultation submission Humanist Society Scotland • October 2012 A submission from the Humanist Society Scotland was prepared and sent in response to this Consultation on 23rd September. The Bill concerns the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in Scotland, and largely covers social services and early years educational provision – traditionally called pre-schooling. The Board of Trustees, at their meeting on 30th September, reviewed the submission and reluctantly decided to withdraw it. This was because it was felt that the submission made a number of significant claims that could not be supported with suitable evidence. This was regarded as an important issue, because Consultation submissions go on the public record, and we can be challenged on them for years to come. Anyone with questions about this decision is invited to contact the Society’s General Secretary, Steve Chinn, via About HSS/Get in Touch (above), where all our contact details can be found.
