Be Prepared! Please add your voice to allow non-religious oaths in the Scouts and Guides

To all Members – and anyone reading this. One of our Trustees, Marilyn Jackson, and Keith Porteous-Wood of the
National Secular Society have brought to our attention the two consultations on
allowing atheists to join the Scouts and Girl Guides without having to swear a
religious oath. They can be found at:
Both cover the whole
of the UK, although the organisations have distinct Scottish divisions; so it is
important that as many voices if favour are registered from here, as otherwise
it might be possible for the Scottish divisions to decide against adopting the
new policy.
If you’re not a monarchist, you might be interested to know that the consultations also cover the issue of whether oaths of loyalty to the Queen should be sworn!
These consultations are all about individual responses, especially
from joining-age kids and anyone related to them. So please go ahead and respond, and encourage others you know who may wish to
do so.
Thank you.
