Of course, there’s no compulsion to provide favours at all. More and more couples are opting to ditch them entirely, with some opting to donate to a charity instead.

However, if you’d like to offer favours, try to make them something that your guests will actually use, consume or appreciate without harming the environment.

Edible or drinkable favours will undoubtedly never be wasteful, unlike little trinkets with your wedding date on it. Cute yes, but more than likely to end up in a drawer somewhere. Other ideas include sachets of British (native) wildflower seeds, or bird seed, or potted flowers or herbs which decorate the table and can later double-up as a pretty take-away for your guests. One couple during the pandemic gave their guests little handmade heart-shaped soaps, which also served as a reminder to everyone to wash their hands properly!
