Humanist Society Conference 2018

The largest Humanist event in Scotland returns with one of our biggest program of speakers to date!

Speakers for 2018 include:

Professor Polly Arnold OBE

Polly is one of Scotland's leading scientists and was awarded the 2012 Rosalind Franklin Award for her research into radioactive waste. Polly helped establish the Sci-Sisters network of women in STEM leadership and was awarded an OBE in 2017 for her work in promoting women in STEM. She is the current chair of Chemistry at the University of Edinburgh.

Andrew Copson

Andrew is President of the International Humanist and Ethical Union and Chief executive of Humanists UK.

Talat Yaqoob

Talat is the Director of Equate Scotland, the national expert body in improving gender equality in STEM sectors in Scotland. Talat is also co-founder of the women 50:50 campaign to increase representation of women in Parliament, councils and public boards.

Catherine Exposito

Catherine is an award winning theatre director and writer from Edinburgh. Her hard hitting short play "Immaculate Correction" explores the difficulties growing up in a Scottish denominational schools where sex and relationship education is non-exsistent.

Professor Glen Pettigrove

Glen is Chair of Moral Philsophy at the University of Glasgow and has wrote extensively on ethics and emotional responses. His 2012 book Forgiveness and Love has been lauded as giving a "new philosphical view of forgiveness" in an easy to access way.

Sharon Moore

Sharon works in the IT industry in Scotland and is a board member of Scottish Women in Technology. She is passionate about tackling the gender gap in the technology sector.

Joan Davidson

Joan is Head of Education at the Edinburgh Science Festival.

 

Ticket includes lunch and refreshments throughout the day.

Humanist Society Scotland Members are also invited to attend the Humanist Society Scotland Annual General Meeting which will follow the conference at the same venue.
