The effects of AI: deconstructing the hype and harm (Glasgow and online)

Date: Sunday 14th September   /   Time: 1:00pm - 3:00pm

We’re delighted to welcome Calum McDonald of the Scottish AI Alliance as our guest speaker.

AI is often wrapped in grand promises: neutrality, efficiency, inevitability. Yet beyond the myth it can magnify bias, deepen inequality, and obscure accountability.

This session will unpack those hidden dynamics, showing how technology is never separate from human choices. We will explore how reasoned scrutiny and attention to lived realities and values like fairness and dignity can shift AI from hype towards genuine ethical practice.

There will be the option to join this session in person or online via Zoom.

Hosted by Glasgow Humanists, all welcome.
