The Assisted Dying Bill hosted by Borders Humanists

Date: Wednesday 24th April   /   Time: 7:00pm - 8:00pm

Hear from Fraser Sutherland, Chief Executive of Humanist Society Scotland, about the background to the Assisted Dying Bill.

Humanist Society Scotland has long campaigned for compassionate choice at the end of life, and is currently supporting the proposed Assisted Dying for Terminally Ill Adults (Scotland) Bill, alongside coalition partners Dignity in Dying Scotland and Friends at the End.

In November 2022, Liam McArthur MSP earned the right to introduce a new members bill which would legalise personal choice in assisted dying for mentally competent, terminally ill adults in Scotland with appropriate safeguards in place. The bill received support from 36 cross-party MSPs.

The new bill is due to be introduced to the Scottish Parliament in the coming months, in a fresh attempt to get the measure enacted for the first time in the UK.

Fraser Sutherland talks to a small crowd, wearing a blue suit, in front of a banner that reads "Humanist Society Scotland."
