Social murder? Austerity & life expectancy in the UK (Glasgow)

Date: Thursday 20th March   /   Time: 7:00pm - 9:00pm

Austerity and life expectancy: the links

Guest speaker David Walsh, author and researcher, will talk about his ground-breaking book exploring how austerity policies have contributed to declining life expectancy and growing health inequalities. Walsh combines powerful evidence with real-life stories to reveal the human cost of policy decisions and offers a hopeful vision for change.

About the speaker

Dr. David Walsh is Senior Lecturer in Health Inequalities at the University of Glasgow and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the School of Health & Wellbeing. With over 30 years of experience in health and public health research, he has held pivotal roles, including 17 years as the Public Health Programme Manager at the Glasgow Centre for Population Health (GCPH). His research focuses on the social determinants of health, particularly the impacts of UK Government austerity policies, excess mortality in Glasgow and Scotland, and inequalities across post-industrial European regions.
