The Emission Reduction Targets (Scotland) Bill passed on the 5th November 2024 after years of delay and an abject lack of meaningful action to reduce emissions. The legislation passing must be a pivotal turning point to deliver long overdue fast and fair action and funding to reduce emissions and the many benefits that this would bring. Humanist Society Scotland are signatories to an open letter to the first minister, featured in The Scotsman on 6 November 2024, showing Scottish civil society and a wide range of diverse organisations are united behind this call.
We invite you to show your support by joining Eco-humanists on Thursday 14 November, 1pm – 2.15pm outside the Scottish Parliament. As part of a diverse group of organisations we’ll be calling on first minister John Swinney to make Scotland a climate leader again and back the call for a fossil fuel treaty. We stand in solidarity with climate-impacted communities across the world, and we are united for action.
There will be a photo stunt outside the Scottish parliament followed by short speeches, poetry and songs. Help us call for the Scottish government to endorse an international treaty to plan the fast and fair phase out of fossil fuels. Scotland “say AYE” to a Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty!
Bring yourselves, your voices and your enthusiasm, and if you can (though not essential) bring a red scarf, hat or wear something red.

Look out for the Eco-humanist banner and come and join us.
