Festival of Humanism 2024

Date: Saturday 26th October   /   Time: 9:00am - 6:00pm

You can now buy tickets for our 2024 Festival of Humanism!

It’s just £10 for a full day of lectures and activities (lunch included) on Saturday 26 October. We asked you which topics you’d like covered, and we’re focusing on the issues you voted for:

  • Assisted dying
  • Conversion practices and LGBT+ histories
  • Religion in education
  • Artificial intelligence
  • Online conspiracy theories

We’ll hear from humanist celebrant and campaigner Kate Buchanan and Elena Whitham MSP on how their personal experiences shaped their belief in assisted dying. Brian Eggo of Glasgow Skeptics and Steph Wright of the Scottish AI Alliance will discuss online conspiracy theories and artificial intelligence. Investigative journalist Neil Mackay and our own Policy and Campaigns Officer Joe Higgins will look at religious privilege in education in Northern Ireland and Scotland. Humanist historian Dr. Charlie Lynch will explore conversion practice histories in Ireland, while Erin Lux and Florence Oulds of the Equality Network will focus on the drive to end conversion practices in Scotland.

We’ll also have a creative mending session with Eilidh Weir (All That Is Braw) that will run throughout the day, an evening zine-making workshop from Glasgow Zine Library, and a pop-up lunchtime exhibition featuring materials from Glasgow Women’s Library.
