Derrick Guild RSA: Ways of Seeing

Date: Monday 1st July   /   Time: 7:30pm - 9:00pm

Attend an artist’s talk by RSA artist Derrick Guild.

Derrick Guild, a prominent member of the Royal Scottish Academy, is an artist whose work often reflects on art history. Seeing the past as an open rather than closed system, Guild often reconfigures historic artworks to create a fluidity between past and present. His works are contemporary and classical, surreal and representational, philosophical and comic, dark and light.

Derrick has created a new body of work in response to Alan Ramsay’s portraits of David Hume, drawing on Hume’s ideas around self and identity. Derrick’s talk will be around all aspects of his work, with a large section devoted to Hume.

This event is hosted online on Zoom by Edinburgh Humanists, chaired by Cathy Crawford, and open to all (you don’t have to be a member of the Edinburgh Humanists). It will be followed by a Humanist Pub Night in in the back room of the Kenilworth Pub in Edinburgh on Wednesday 3 July from 7pm. This will be an opportunity to meet in-person and discuss the themes of Derrick’s talk further if you wish.

This event is open to all Humanist Society Scotland members, supporters, and anyone who shares our vision and values. Participation is free.
