Join us at the Robert Burns Centre Film Theatre in Dumfries for a rare screening of the 1997 sci-fi drama Contact, based on the novel by the late scientist, astronomer, and humanist Carl Sagan. The film tells the story of Dr. Ellie Arroway (Jodie Foster), who, after years of searching, finds conclusive radio-proof of extra-terrestrial intelligence, sending plans for a mysterious machine.
This special screening is supported by Humanist Society Scotland and organised by Dumfries Humanists Group in partnership with the Robert Burns Centre Film Theatre, as part of a programme of events celebrating World Humanist Day.
The film will be introduced by Humanist Society Scotland member Lindsey Mason Ross. Lindsey is a huge fan of all things sci-fi and of Carl Sagan, and there will be an opportunity to discuss the film and the work of the charity afterwards.
There is no entry fee but donations to a local food-bank charity would be welcome. Essential items needed include tins of fruit, custard, vegetables, tomatoes, soup, dog food, UHT milk, long-life juice, coffee, toilet roll, shaving foam and razors, deodorant.
Alternatively, please consider making a donation to the Society to support our campaigns.
