Enjoy an exclusive dinner with Professor Richard Wiseman and Chris Brookmyre and help raise vital funds to support the work of Humanist Society Scotland.
Expect to hear about psychology, illusion and magic! Why do we find magic fascinating, how does it work and why has it continued in the face of scientific advances? There might even be time to touch on aspects of self-help – including how to be luckier, happier and more productive! Now who doesn’t want to know that? Richard and Chris will also talk about the difference between writing fiction and non-fiction, how fiction writers and psychologists view people, what books have shaped their lives, heroes, and who knows what else!
Richard Wiseman holds Britain’s only Professorship in the Public Understanding of Psychology at the University of Hertfordshire, and has published over 100 academic papers examining the psychology of magic and illusion, deception, luck and self-development. His psychology-based YouTube videos have attracted over 800 million views and he is one of the most followed psychologists on social media, as well as a Member of the Inner Magic Circle, acting as a creative consultant on several stage and television projects.
Chris Brookmyre was a journalist before becoming a full-time novelist with the publication of his award-winning debut Quite Ugly One Morning, which established him as one of Britain’s leading crime authors. His novels have sold more than two million copies in the UK alone, and Black Widow won both the McIlvanney Prize and the Theakston’s Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year award.
The evening includes a glass of champagne on arrival, a three-course dinner, a half-bottle of house wine with your meal, tea or coffee, and the highlight, Richard and Chris in conversation in the beautiful setting of the Burke & Hare private dining room, which features a collection of intriguing and original art, along with a bespoke wall mural.
