Wedding & Civil Partnership, Naming & Welcoming and Funeral Ceremonies

About

Humanism for me is about choice. Many people these days are not religious, but still want to celebrate a birth, a life or a wedding with elements of a traditional ceremony, but also with the freedom to express what they think and feel without restrictions. As a wedding celebrant I work with the couple to help them understand what choices they have in creating their unique wedding. We work together to create something personal and a ceremony that reflects them, from the promises and vows they make, to the music and symbolic gestures they may choose. Sometimes the wedding ceremony we create is more traditional, serious and sober, at other times full of fun and laughter. Often, it is a blend of both. What it is always, is what the couple want, with a little guidance from me. I conduct ceremonies throughout Scotland and in particular Fife and Edinburgh. As for me, well humour and fun are a big part of my style. Three days a week I run my own business and I’m upbeat and enthusiastic about life, but without being annoying about it. (let's face it not every day is "fantastic") I’m very unsuccessful at keeping fit as I love a Greggs far too much, but in defiance of my increasing waistline I have done and do numerous endurance events including duathlons and marathons. My family cheer me on, though only I suspect, as they know where I keep my life insurance policies.

Wedding & Civil Partnership Ceremonies

Welcome to the mad world of weddings. Naming & Welcoming Ceremonies

Naming ceremonies are increasing in popularity as people recognise they can celebrate the arrival of a child not only with a party, wine, beer and nibbles, but also with tradition, promises and sincerity. As with all ceremonies, I ask lots of questions to understand what you would like and also guide you around some of the elements you might want to consider. What we end up with is a unique naming ceremony for your child or children that reflects you. While they say never work with animals or children, all the naming ceremonies I have had the privilege of conducting have been both sincere, dignified, but also a lot of fun.

Funeral Ceremonies

As a funeral celebrant my role is about creating and delivering a tribute that celebrates the person’s life. Reflecting what they did in their life, what and who was important to them and who they were as a person. Inevitably, funerals are a time of sadness and mourning, but I always try to be positive and draw out the memories that make people smile and even laugh. I am always respectful however and take the tone of the tribute from the families lead. I realise that representing the family, being their story teller is a huge privilege and responsibility.
