Wouldn’t it be great to start your married life with a ceremony that really means something? To tell your friends and family what your relationship means to you, how it evolved an...d why you are choosing to get married? Many of us who aren’t religious are looking for a wedding that is more flexible and personal than a civil or register office ceremony. If you are thinking about getting married and are ready to deepen your commitment, choosing a celebrant is one of the most important decisions. I am here to help you. Taking the time to think about why you’re getting married, and deciding what you want to tell your family and friends, is what will make your wedding so special – as so many of the couples I’ve married have been happy to tell me. Unlike in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, humanist weddings in Scotland do have legal status. You can have a Humanist wedding ceremony in other parts of the UK but the ceremony has no legal status. Scotland is one of only eight countries in the world humanists can conduct legal marriages, the others being Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Norway, Iceland, Ireland and some parts of the US. I’ll help you make your wedding ceremony truly unique, a memory you will cherish for the rest of your lives. Just as your relationship is yours alone, your ceremony should also be uniquely yours, and reflect your thoughts and feelings, so it is meaningful to you and your guests. One of the attractions of a Humanist wedding is that you’re free to say in your own words why you’re here, where you’re going and what you’re promising, and I will help you create a ceremony that reflects who you are, and what you think and feel. Each wedding is tailored to meet the particular couple’s requirements. You can set the tone that’s right for you and choose your own words and music. From castles to beaches, from Scottish islands like Skye and The Hebrideas, to candle-lit city hotels or even the intimacy of your own home, I can give you and your guests a wonderful Humanist wedding or civil partnership in Scotland. The arrival of a new chil...d into a family is a very special time and you might want to celebrate with a baby naming. I would be delighted and honoured to assist you with some ideas which you may want to consider and aim to end up with a unique naming ceremony for your child or children that reflects you and you beliefs as well as incorporating an event which will be sincere, dignified and a lot of fun. I will send you lots of examples to help you decide what you would like to include in the ceremony as each ceremony is unique, tailored to your requirements. Humanist funerals and memorial services offer a personal and fitting way to say goodbye to those who have lived without rel...igion. Humanist funerals bring people together to express sadness at the loss but also to celebrate the life lived. They focus sincerely and affectionately on the person who has died, paying tribute to the connections they made and left behind and the way they lived their life. Whilst a funeral director is the professional most likely to deal with the practical arrangements of a funeral, what type of ceremony you choose is entirely up to you. And since funerals themselves have no legal status, humanist funerals – like all others – can be held in a variety of places, although in practice most are held in crematoria, cemeteries or woodland burial sites. I put a great deal of thought and care into what I write to not only reflect the person’s personality and the things that were important to them, but just as significantly include special memories of the people who were part of their life.
