Take action on assisted dying! Respond to Scottish Parliament consultation, contact your MSPs

July 29, 2024

It’s a really significant time just now for the assisted dying movement across the UK and beyond. Liam McArthur MSP’s Assisted Dying for Terminally Ill Adults (Scotland) Bill is currently out for consultation. We have a new UK Government more open than ever to the possibility of a free vote on assisted dying. And in the Isle of Man and Jersey, laws are in the final stages of discussion or drafting. Here are two ways you can help drive the change in Scotland.

Respond to Scottish Parliament consultation

Holyrood’s, Health, Social Care, and Sport Committee is currently taking written responses to its public consultation on assisted dying. The consultation closes on 16 August. We know that the forces of religious opposition to assisted dying usually coordinate large-scale actions in situations like this. So, it’s more important than ever that we humanists, assisted dying campaigners, and allies make our case too. We’ve put together a handy guide that you can use to respond to both the full-length and short versions of the assisted dying survey.

Write to your MSP

You can also use our newly updated letter template to write to your MSPs expressing support for assisted dying. After the consultation, the assisted dying bill will face a series of votes at Holyrood before it can become law. So the more MSP support we can ensure at this stage, the better. Now is the time for humane, rational, and compassionate end-of-life choice in Scotland. Let’s seize this opportunity.

Write to your MSP to tell them you support assisted dying

We’ve prepared an editable letter template you can use to make your case.
