Use our guide for responding to the assisted dying consultation

June 18, 2024

We know that our members and supporters care passionately about assisted dying. Holyrood’s Health, Social Care and Sport Committee has just launched a call for views on Liam McArthur’s draft bill to legalise assisted dying. The deadline for responses is 16 August 2024.

We want as many people as possible who believe in end-of-life to choice to have their say in this consultation process. So, we’ve put together a handy guide on how to answer each question in your own words, using your own experiences.

The consultation in brief

The committee has provided two options to respond to the consultation. A “Short Survey” and a “Detailed Call for Views.” Both are relatively simple to answer and consist of multiple-choice questions. There is also an option to provide additional comments if you wish.

No matter which method of responding you choose, we would encourage you to answer as many questions as you have time for. Use your own words and experiences where possible. If you are unsure about how to answer any of the questions, our guide provides steers and tips.

How to respond to the “short survey” version

If you want to fill out the short survey, it’s really easy to do using the tips below. (If you want to respond to the Detailed Call for Views, download our guide. It’s only a few pages long.)
