Humanists join call to protect the Human Rights Act on Human Rights Day!

December 10, 2021

To mark Human Rights Day today the Society signed an open letter to the Prime Minister urging him to take action to secure our Human Rights Act, and safeguard human rights and democratic accountability in the UK.

The letter asserts that the growing atmosphere of hostility towards human rights and legal accountability in the UK cannot continue, and along with 159 diverse groups and organisations, we urge the Prime Minister and all political leaders to commit to enshrining and enacting the Human Rights Act in everything they do.

The letter was coordinated by the British Institute of Human Rights and the full text can be found here.
