HSS member Dr. Jo Butt

Jo was a long- standing member of HSS and regularly attended meetings of the Edinburgh group. Jo was also well known to many who enjoyed his company on outings with HELL (Humanists Enjoying Living Life). Jo had an enthusiasm for life with a ready wit with a huge reservoir of knowledge and a love of literature and poetry.

Jo was a doctor and in his services to medicine he embodied Humanist values of care and compassion and a concern for social justice.  His contribution to medicine was widely recognised and he was not only a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians but also a Fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners.

HSS Celebrant Jackie Grant will conduct a funeral service with a celebration of Jo’s life. The funeral will take place at 11am on Tuesday 27th September at Lorimer Chapel, Warriston Crematorium, Edinburgh.
